The versets are based on well-known sacred songs. They were largely transformed melodically and rhythmically. To a certain extent, this then also shaped the harmonic sound background. From a purely formal point of view, typical chorale variations were created on this basis. The tonal possibilities of the organ as well as the special spatial experience of large churches stimulated these compositions in a special way.
