Kram, Christian FP

Christian FP Kram, born in Volkach (near Würzburg, Germany) completed his studies in music theory and piano at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen in 1994. He then undertook postgraduate studies in composition with Manfred Trojahn at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. In 1996 he continued these studies with Peter Herrmann at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig. Kram attended master classes with important composers such as Wolfgang Rihm. In 1998 he passed his concert exam and received a fellowship to attend a master class in composition during the three subsequent years, and passed the final exam with distinction. He was awarded several fellowships, such as a fellowship for composition of the Free State of Saxony, the Tübinger Kompositionsstipendium (Tübingen Composition Fellowship), two fellowships as a visiting composer in the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, and two 5-months-grants by the Kulturstiftung Sachsen (Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony).

Between 2008 and 2010 Christian FP Kram was a member of the advisory board for music/visual arts of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. Furthermore, he has been a member of the advisory board for music of the Kulturamt Leipzig (Cultural Office Leipzig) since 2010. In the same year he was elected chairman of the Sächsische Musikbund e.V, and he is also member of the Management Board of MusikProjektSachsen e.V. Kram organises concert series and festivals of contemporary music.

So far, Kram mainly created musico-theatrical works, such as the opera Leonce and Lena (after Georg Büchner), that had its very successful first performance in 2000. Further works include orchestral compositions like the cycle Etüden, numerous songs and pieces of chamber music like the Rilke-Gesänge for vocal quartet and piano.
